The Regina Coeli Prayer

Madonna with child Jesus

The Regina Coeli prayer is a traditional devotion used morning, noon, and evening in honor of the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ during the Easter season. It is also appropriate before or after Holy Mass. The devotion gets its name from the first two words of the prayer in Latin.

Outside the Great Fifty Days of Easter, the Angelus is used instead of the Regina Coeli.

V/ Queen of Heaven, rejoice. Alleluia.
R/ For He whom thou wast found worthy to bear, Alleluia.

V/ Has Risen as He said. Alleluia.
R/ Pray for us to God. Alleluia.

V/ Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
R/ For the Lord is truly risen. Alleluia.

Let us pray.

O God, thou hast given joy to the whole world through the Resurrection of thy Son, Jesus Christ. We ask through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, to bring us to the joy of eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
